Description

Effigy (Martyn Van Wyck) is a supervillain, primarily an enemy of Green Lantern, who is originally from Seattle, Washington. He was raised by his alcoholic father following his mother’s death. Martyn aspired to become a musician, but was unable to find work. He was later abducted by the Controllers who experimented on him and give him fire-based abilities. Believing their experiments to have failed, the Controllers returned Martyn to Earth where his powers were revealed. After he battled Green Lantern, the Controllers saw their experiments were successful, so they captured and brainwashed him into serving them, but he recovered and escaped to Earth.
